Secretary Rodney Slater is currently a Partner with Squire Patton Boggs, one of the nation’s leading law firms, practicing in the areas of transportation, infrastructure and public policy. Previously, he served as the U.S. Secretary of Transportation from 1997 to 2001 and as the Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration from 1993 to 1997.As U.S. Secretary of Transportation under President Bill Clinton, Secretary Slater passed several historic legislative initiatives over his tenure. Under his leadership, the federal transportation budget doubled and in the department’s “best in government” strategic and performance plans, the scope and definition of transportation was expanded to include a focus on safety, mobility and access, economic development and trade, the environment and national security. Secretary Slater served as a director of Verizon Communications from 2010 to 2025 and as a director of EVgo Inc. from 2021 to 2023. He also previously served on the boards of directors of Kansas City Southern, Transurban Group, Delta Airlines and Northwest Airlines. Additionally, Secretary Slater is a founding partner of the Washington DC Nationals Baseball team and Chair Emeritus of the Washington DC Nationals Youth Baseball Academy. He is also an NCAA Silver Anniversary Recipient (2002) for football.
